The existing 168,000 SF FedEx Ground Packaging facility at 375 Ballardvale Street in Wilmington, MA was the first facility to begin renovations to in fall of 2017. This project includes updating many of the building system components as well as refreshing office and employee facilities. A new security building was also added to the site and the exterior of the building was given an overall facelift. Some of the major work included upgrading the electrical service, lighting, fire alarm and installing new radiant heat in the warehouse. We look forward to wrapping up another successful project with Scannell in July of 2018.
Demolition also began last fall on this existing 470,000 SF building formerly owned by Boston Scientific at 500 Commander Shea Boulevard in Quincy, MA. This facility will be completely renovated into a 370,000 SF FedEx Ground Sorting Center. A major challenge to this project is the removal of two full structural bays of the existing building along the entire northern side of the building to make ample room for the shipping and receiving truck court including 48 dock positions. A new 92,000 truck enclosure will also be added to the site. The existing building systems in Quincy received similar upgrades consistent with the Wilmington facility as well as a new Co2/No2 sensor system with new supply and exhaust to be installed. This project also features the installation of a fully automated sorting system linked by conveyors to the west side distribution area for loading of all delivery vehicles. The project is scheduled to be complete in November 2018.
