The hospital addition for UMass Memorial Health Care was awarded to Dacon via a competitive bid process for construction management services. Acting as the general contractor, Dacon constructed this 60,00 SF facility featuring three modern operating rooms, an intensive care unit suite, pre- and post-operative recovery suites, telemedicine, endoscopy rooms, an admitting area and 30 patient rooms. Dacon developed a synchronized and carefully planned phasing and safety plan for the project due to the proximity of this expansion to heavy pedestrian traffic patterns of the existing hospital’s operations.
In addition to the patient-care areas, Dacon provided pre-construction and construction services on a laboratory renovation and consolidation. This 5,500 SF project brought greater efficiency and enabled the expansion of adjacent radiology services. The project was especially challenging because the lab was moved into the space directly adjacent to the addition. Dacon provided life-safety, infectious control and phasing plans that were incorporated for Department of Public Health submission. Dacon reduced the control budget 18% by delivering constructability efficiencies, value engineering and bid package preparation.
