Emhart Glass: Hot End Research, Development and Production Center

Dacon was chosen to design and build Emhart Glass’ North American corporate headquarters and research and development (R&D) pilot plant for ongoing manufacturing research. Emhart Glass is a Switzerland-based supplier of equipment, controls and parts for the glass container industry. In addition to 16,000 SF of office space, the 60,000 SF building required somewhat unique accommodations. Its three-story, 30,000 SF “hot end” houses a massive firing oven capable of reaching 3200° Fahrenheit, and a 55-foot deck height intersected with various process mezzanines. The exterior walls and roofing systems contain intake and exhaust louvers for gravity ventilation, and are specially designed for expansion and heat exhaust. The facility’s “cold end” houses quality control laboratories, and extends 24-feet high to the roof deck to accommodate bottle cooling equipment.
