Challenge

The Boston Sports Institute believes sports are for all ages. The acquisition of an Olympic trial pool resulted in an opportunity to build a multi-use athletic facility consisting of 2 NHL rinks, 2 pools, spectator seating, an indoor turf field and a physical therapy/strength conditioning area. Challenges included maximizing a limited development area, environmental conservancy, a humid internal environment and containment of chloramines.

Design Build Value

To address environmental sensitivity and a high-water table, a pipeline was built over adjacent properties with an egress to a small lake. Water pressure and purity were monitored weekly for quality control. A separate mechanical system was installed to ensure the containment of chloramines from adjacent areas. High volume egresses were incorporated to handle spectators and an indoor track was suspended for better space utilization.
